About Susan Shaw
Susan Shaw, MSW, C.Ht. earned her Masters in
Social Work at CSU Northridge in 2008 and became a
Certified Master Hypnotist at the Hypnosis Motivation
Institute (HMI) in 1996. She is a freelance writer,
former mentor and HMI course instructor and a
regular contributing feature writer for "Diabetes Self
Management" magazine. Shaw has worked with
hundreds of private clients via telephone and in person,
and has facilitated numerous special group sessions at
hospitals and community groups.
Shaw is committed to using the best empirical
evidence available to help each individual and tracks
individual results in a systematic way, a practice that
ensures realistic expectations and positive outcomes.
Shaw is a master facilitator of Jungian "active
imagination," an exploration of the deep subconscious
that brings personal issues into direct contact with the
wisdom of the collective unconscious. Unique,
inspiring and life enhancing solutions commonly result.
Shaw's unique work with the diabetes community is
featured in the book, Alternative Therapies for
Managing Diabetes, by David Drum. She has served
as a speaker at Steven Edelman, M.D.'s "Taking
Control of Your Diabetes," and is a regularly featured
speaker at American Diabetes Association events and
support groups in the San Fernando Valley.
Her use of inner guides with medical conditions is
noted in the book, When the Worst is Over; What
to Say When Every Moment Counts, by Judith
Acosta and Judith Simon-Prager.
She is a feature writer for Diabetes Interview and
Diabetes Self-Management magazines.
Shaw has served as a speaker and group
facilitator at the City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente,
and USC Medical Center, to name a few. Group
experientials and presentations are available by
special arrangement.
